Birthday Reflection

I haven’t been big into my own birthday. Because I hadn’t grown to love myself well, how could I justify a day to celebrate me? However, I love wishing other people happy birthday & celebrating them.

This year I challenged myself to embrace my day of birth. To celebrate the gift of life. To remember that I am loved.  To fully appreciate the kind notes people send throughout the day.

I’m grateful for everyone who thinks of me today. I’m also stoked to be heading to Turks and Caicos for a family vacation!

My Dad wrote me a song when I was a baby that he faithfully serenades me with every year. Here are the lyrics:

“Hey little Christopher

I’ll give a penny for

what you’ve got on your mind.

Broccoli trees, honeycomb bees,

and airplanes that fly in the sky.

My how the years go by,

*27 in a blink of an eye,

You’re a big boy now.

But now matter how old,

big & bold,

you’ll always be my little pal.”

Here’s to the evolution of learning to love myself. Another year, another series of triumphs & trials, and another fresh outlook on life. Let’s see how 27 feels now that I’m trying it on!
